JUNOS at the International Liberation Ceremony in Mauthausen
On May 10, 2026, Kathrin Kaindl, Simon Herbuger, Lorenz Unger, and Gregor Stadler attended the International Commemoration and Liberation Ceremony at the Mauthausen Concentration Camp Memorial on behalf of JUNOS. Together with thousands of people from Austria and around the world, they commemorated the victims of National Socialism and stood as a symbol of democracy, human rights, and a peaceful Europe.
The annual Liberation Ceremony commemorates the liberation of the Mauthausen concentration camp by the Allies in May 1945. For us, commemorating the crimes of Nazism is an important mission. As young liberals in particular, we see it as our responsibility to keep these memories alive and to stand firmly for freedom, democracy, and the dignity of every single person. Visiting the memorial site and participating together in the liberation ceremony underscore how important it is to learn from history and to resolutely oppose every form of extremism.
We thank the Mauthausen Committee of Austria for organizing this dignified commemorative event and will continue to advocate for a vibrant culture of remembrance and strong democratic coexistence in the future.
