About us

blurhash

We are fighting for a liberal society at the heart of a united Europe. We develop ideas and solutions to the problems of the 21st century, whilst already thinking about the next generation.

As a youth organisation, we offer young people the space to flourish and grow as individuals. We practise respect and celebrate uniqueness, because we are convinced that diversity makes for the best politics and the best community.

Our Journey

2009

Foundation as Junge Liberale

It all began at a national forum of the Liberal Students’ Forum in January 2009. There, the decision was taken to move beyond student politics and rebrand ourselves as a fully-fledged liberal youth party under the name “Junge Liberale Österreich” (JuLis). Later that same year, we stood in the Student Union and European elections.

Stronger Together

In April 2012, we took the momentous decision to support the new party NEOS. No one could have predicted that a decision made on the back of a Dutch postcard would ultimately lead us to the National Council.

A year after this historic breakthrough, we became the official youth wing of NEOS in 2014 and have been known as Junge liberale NEOS – JUNOS” ever since.

Our voice at universities

To ensure that student politics continues to be given the importance it deserves, we founded our student branch JUNOS Studierende in 2013, which has since consistently advocated for liberal higher education policy as a branch association at universities and within the Student Union.

2017

Best result for liberal politics

In the 2017 Student Union election, we achieved the best nationwide liberal election result in Austrian history with 12.61%. For the first time, JUNOS Studierende were represented in the National Student Council with seven seats, thereby establishing themselves as an indispensable force.

2020

Getting involved in school politics

While Austria came to a standstill due to the Covid pandemicwe took the next step by founding JUNOS Schüler:innen. Since then, they have been campaigning as a branch association for liberal education and school policy and have been standing as candidates in the student council elections since 2021.

They managed to secure a seat on the National Pupil Council on their very first attempt.

Now available nationwide

With the founding of a regional association in Burgenland in November 2020, we were represented throughout Austria for the first time. Since then, we have established a presence in all federal states and are driving forward our commitment to liberalism across the board.

2024

Liberal without borders

The election of Ines Holzegger as President of the European Liberal Youth (LYMEC) in 2024 marked a new high point in our international work. It confirmed our strong collaboration with our European partners and our firm roots in the liberal movement.
