Free contraception in South Tyrol: JUNOS call for a pilot scheme in Tyrol too

A pilot scheme offering free contraception to young people has been running in South Tyrol since 1 September. The Tyrolean JUNOS support this initiative and are calling for a similar pilot scheme to be implemented in Tyrol as well. “We at JUNOS have long been strongly advocating for the costs of contraceptives for minors to be covered. Two years ago, we called on the provincial government to launch a pilot project in Tyrol. South Tyrol is now demonstrating that free access to contraception is possible. We are therefore reiterating our call to the Tyrolean provincial government: Tyrol should also launch such a pilot project!”, said JUNOS Provincial Chair Julian Pfurtscheller.

JUNOS already active at the MCI: free condoms for students

The Austrian Students’ Union at the MCI, on the initiative of JUNOS – which has held the chair there for several years – already offers free condoms to students. With this measure, JUNOS aims to facilitate low-threshold access to free contraception. “We at JUNOS have already taken the initiative within the ÖH at MCI and are offering students free condoms. The fact that this service has been very well received shows us once again just how important easy-access and free contraception services are. Contraception must not be denied to young people simply because of a lack of money,” concluded Pfurtscheller.
